It is just a sad part of owning a car. Everybody has had that dreadful moment when suddenly the car starts to sputter or lurch or steam starts to pour out of the radiator. “No,” you scream in horror, but it is too late, your car has broken down and now you are the holding up traffic and receiving angry glares. What do you do? Here are some things to remember.

First get your car off the road. It seems like a no brainer, but many fail to do this. Sure your car is dying but you usually have a few seconds to get over before it does. If you can’t get off the street at least pull over as close to the curb as you can to make room for cars to pass you. As soon as you pull over, turn the hazard lights on (so people can see you) and turn your wheels into the curb (so you don’t roll out.) You may want to put your emergency brake on as well.

Foreign competition has been quick to innovate and respond to consumer demands by providing higher quality, reliability and greener technology then their American counterparts. The result has been decreased sales, near bankruptcy and for some, a government bailout. Another result has been a perceived negative perception. Recently Dodge removed its name from the new Viper in hopes it will the dissociation will increase sales. Now Ford is attempting to do the same thing.
In test audiences, new models of Ford cars and SUV’s were scoring well until later it was revealed they were Fords. Once that happened, the preconceived notions of Ford set in and the scores were down. This led Ford to run a series of ad campaigns without the famed blue oval on them. Despite this, Ford still does well overall and is on the rebound. Their trucks and suv’s are still among the top sellers and the Mustang still dominates the muscle car scene. Ford also does well on the used car market. The Fusion and Focus are also common sites on the road. Truthfully Ford has caught up, and in some way surpassed their foreign counterparts in efficiency and safety, but much of the public has yet to realize this. Ford realizes there is a gap they need to address and are working to do so. What remains to be seen is how well it works.

The first photos of the new Porsche 918 Spyder have been popping up everywhere after a recent photo shoot at a closed course in Germany. Inspired by the famous 917, this baby is sleek, black-black matte. If you think it looks amazing from the front, pop the hood open for peek.

It sports a 570-hp, 4.6 liter V-8 couple with TWO electric motors that will push it up to 770 hp. Don’t call it a hybrid though, while you could drive on electric alone, the V-8 still produces the most power. This is Porsche’s newest supercar and expected to compete at a high level. It is certainly priced to perform at a high level, with estimations running around $850,000. You want find them at car dealerships though, they are only making 918 of them and they are special order only.

I always wondered why they did this when they obviously had pet dinosaurs that be harnessed to pull the car. It seems like a lot of wear and tear on the feet as well.

Speed Racer on the other hand had one of the most awesome cars ever in the Mach 5. No feet peddling here, all he had to do was press the peddle to the metal and he was off like a rocket. Oil slicks, jumps, loops and tight turns, he could handle it all. I am thinking it is a definite upgrade from the stone age.

He was 89 years old. To say he was a legend is putting it mildly, try super legend, or super-duper legend (if there is such a thing!) Not only was he a successful race-car driver, but also an incredibly successful designer, team owner and entrepreneur.

Most famous for creating the Shelby Cobra, his cars went on to dominate the world’s race tracks, including defeating the Corvette and ultimately defeating the dreaded and feared Ferrari. His cars were so dominate that Ford asked him to develop a variant of their Mustang. He then designed what is often considered his crowning achievement, the Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang. The top of the line Shelby Mustang has been so successful for Ford that they continue to produce it to this day. Today’s model is the Shelby GT500 Mustang and sports an impressive 650hp, V8 engine. To think he only started off with an old used car when he was young is pretty impressive!

Buying a car is huge decision that could have long term consequences so you want to make sure you get it right. Today we continue with part of our award winning series: Car Buying Blunders. Yesterday we talked about taking a financing, today we will talk more about the trade in.

Trading in used cars can give you a discount on your current purchase (unless you are like me and have trade-in value of zero.) the catch is how and when you negotiate it. As with all things in the car buying process, know what your trade-in is worth before going into the dealer. Good used car research can help you get a better deal. If you do a Enterprise Car Sales has a lot of good research material you can to look up the value of a car. Most people do not realize this, but it is better to negotiate the trade-in value after you have settled on the price of the car you want. If you do it before hand then the dealer knows how much off the MSRP your trade-in will be and negotiate more in his favor then yours.

Buying a car is huge decision that could have long term consequences so you want to make sure you get it right. Today we continue with part of our award winning series: Car Buying Blunders. Yesterday we talked about taking a financing, today we will talk more about negotiating from the sticker price.

If you don’t do your homework beforehand then the sticker price is all you can negotiate from. This puts the dealer at an advantage over you. You should research your car before you go in. Look up the MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) the invoice price (what the dealer pays), consumer rebates, manufacturers rebates, direct-to-dealer incentives and anything else that might be out there. A used car appraisal can often help as well. The dealer still needs to make a profit, but this gives you a number to work up from, rather than depend on the MSRP. Another way to avoid haggling is to go to a no haggle dealer like Enterprise Car Sales. Places like this are good because what you see is what you get.

Buying a car is huge decision that could have long term consequences so you want to make sure you get it right. Today we continue with part of our award winning series: Car Buying Blunders. Yesterday we talked about taking a test drive, today we will talk more about the frustrations of financing.

Be in the Know About Financing:

Like most people you probably can’t afford to pay cash up front for a new car. So what do you do? You will need to finance. You can negotiate all you want on lowering the price of new or even used autos but if you don’t finance correctly then you will end up paying more in the end. Dealers typically don’t have very competitive rates and they get reimbursed for all the loans they make. Used car financing can be just as tricky as well. Here is the catch. Know your credit score and research what kind of loans may be available outside of the dealerships. Often credit unions or even other banks can offer you a better deal, or at least give you an idea of what you can afford. If you hate negotiating though, you can skip it altogether at a no haggle dealer such as Enterprise Car Sales.

Buying a car is huge decision that could have long term consequences so you want to make sure you get it right. Today we continue with part of our award winning series: Car Buying Blunders. Yesterday we talked about taking a test drive, today we will talk about paying in cash.

Being Up Front:

You may have enough cash saved up to buy a car but that doesn’t mean you should let the dealer know about it. You might think it gives you more leverage but in weird way it can backfire. Dealers make a ton of money on financing and interest, so if they think you are financing they will be likely to come down on the overall price, because they will more than make it up over the length of the loan. If they know you’re paying cash up front, they will be less likely to come down on the overall price because there is no interest to collect on. Okay, most people can’t afford to pay cash up front unless it they are shopping for used cars. Don’t lie but if you are paying cash, try to negotiate the deal first, then tell them you are paying cash. Many people avoid complicated negotiations altogether by shopping at a no haggle dealer such as Enterprise Car Sales.
